PUBLIC SHORT COURSE
Each year, the KU Aerospace Short Course Program offers groups of short courses at specific locations in the U.S.
Individual courses range from 1-5 days in length, and are offered in a traditional classroom setting. Participants learn face-to-face from industry experts, enhanced by group discussions and networking opportunities.
You are responsible for making your own lodging and transportation arrangements. These costs are not included in the course fee. Lodging and transportation information can be found on each location page.

Frequently Asked Questions
In 2017, KU Aerospace Short Courses will introduce a new discount structure. A group discount is no longer offered. Now, every attendee has the opportunity to save on the course registration fee with the early registration discount. Save up to $200 on the course registration fee when you register and pay by the early registration deadline — 45 days before the course start date (the early registration deadline is listed on each course page).
U. S. federal government employees will receive a 10% discount off the registration fee for select courses. If a course is eligible for the U.S. federal government employee discount, it will be indicated on the course page. To receive the federal employee discount, enter the code fgvt116 when registering.
We recommend that you register as soon as possible to secure your place in a course. You can save up to $200 on the course registration fee when you register and pay for your course 45 days before the course start date (by the early registration deadline listed on the course page).
Course materials are shipped to the location two weeks prior to the course start date. We will gladly accept registrations, if space is available, up to the day a course begins; however, there could be a delay in getting you the course materials. The course enrollment maximum is 40—sometimes less if classroom space is limited at a venue—and we do sell out. Yes, you may transfer to another course. If you are unable to attend a course for which you have registered, you have one year from the original course date to complete a short course of equal value, or you may request a refund. If the course you transfer into is more expensive, we will bill you for the difference. If the course is less expensive, we will refund the difference. Payment of the course registration fee is due upon registration.
Generally, our participants are professionals who have graduated with a collegiate degree. Many have advanced degrees. People from all over the world come to our public courses. All courses are taught in English.
Yes. You receive one CEU for 10 hours of instructional time (i.e. a 21-hour-class is worth 2.1 CEUs). CEUs are printed on each participant’s certificate of attendance. CEUs may not be used for college credit.
We usually make the decision to cancel a course two weeks prior to the course start date. In the event a course is canceled, the University of Kansas’ liability is limited to the registration fee. The University of Kansas will not be responsible for any losses incurred by the registrants, including, but not limited to, airline cancelation charges or hotel deposits. For courses hosted in a hotel, we typically reserve a limited number of hotel rooms for our attendees, often at a discounted rate. In order to receive the discounted rate, you must must reserve your room directly with the hotel by the deadline indicated on the event location page. Please utilize the dedicated reservation link on the event location page, or follow the instructions to reserve a room in the KU room block. Those who make their reservations after all available rooms in the block are filled and/or after the deadline may not receive the Aerospace Short Course discount and associated amenities.
This is dependent on each location. Most hotels provide free internet access in lobby areas. Often we are able to negotiate free internet access in the hotel guest rooms. We do not provide internet access in the meeting rooms. Unless otherwise provided, internet usage fees are the responsibility of the participant.
Hotels typically have either an exercise room or an affiliation with a local health club. Check with the hotel for specific availability.
Casual, comfortable clothes are appropriate for all courses. Room temperatures can fluctuate and be difficult to control so always bring a jacket—even in warm weather. Dressing in layers is best.
Meals are typically served buffet style with a variety of options so you can select food that is appropriate for your lifestyle. We request no pork products on our buffets. Please let us know in advance if you have specific dietary restrictions and we will do our best to accommodate your needs. However, fulfillment of dietary requests is dependent on the accommodations provided by the venue.
Yes. Each lunch costs approximately $40-$60 including tax and service charge, depending on the venue. If you would like to bring a guest to a meal, please contact us at ProfessionalPrograms@ku.edu52 to discuss payment options.
We cannot predict this. The number of people in the course and the depth of discussion determine the length of the course on the last day. You should plan to stay until the time specified.
The amount of material varies from course to course. Most courses have a notebook; many also have a textbook. The approximate weight of the materials are included the attendee confirmation letter. Please take this into consideration when packing for your trip.
In order to receive the KU room block rate and any additional benefits, you must reserve your room directly with the hotel by the deadline indicated. Please utilize the dedicated reservation link on the event location page, or follow the instructions to reserve a room in the KU room block. If you did not reserve your room in this manner, we suggest you contact the hotel, let them know you are attending a class with the KU Aerospace Short Course program, and ask if it is possible to be moved into the KU room block. Note that the hotel is under no obligation to provide the special rate if you are trying to reserve a room after the room block deadline, which is indicated on each location page. Also, if you booked your room using an online booking site, the hotel may not be able to change your reservation.
The course notes are for participants only and are not for sale.
